Last year was a really positive one for our environmental objectives, with strong results across compliance, material reduction and employee engagement. Here’s a look at what we achieved and how we’re continuing to reduce our impact on the environment:
Being a Good Neighbour
We’re proud to say that we maintained a zero-complaints record from our neighbouring community throughout the year. This was supported by enhanced environmental monitoring and improved risk assessments, helping us spot and manage potential issues early and keep disruption to an absolute minimum.
Getting the Basics Right
We achieved 100% compliance with all relevant environmental legislation, thanks to our new compliance management system. Regular quarterly audits and ongoing staff training played a big part in this, making sure everyone understood their responsibilities and that we stayed firmly on track.
Cutting Down on Paper and Plastic
We set ourselves a target to reduce paper usage by 20% and exceeded it, achieving a 34% reduction over the year. Small changes in how we work, alongside a bigger push towards digital solutions, really added up.
To help cut down on single-use plastics, we also rolled out branded reusable water bottles to employees and clients. It’s a simple change, but one that helps reinforce more sustainable habits every day.
Making More Sustainable Choices
We reviewed all of our product categories using environmental impact criteria and created a clear list of environmentally friendly suppliers. This means sustainability is now a much bigger part of how we make purchasing decisions going forward.
Keeping the Conversation Going
Environmental awareness stayed front of mind throughout the year, with 14 internal communications shared to highlight progress, tips and ideas. We also introduced a new way for employees to submit ideas for environmental improvements, giving everyone a chance to contribute and make a real difference. This will be continued this year, with a newly developed focus group, The Green Working Group, who will be involved in regular meetings to ensure sustainability continues to be at the forefront of our company agenda.
The Big Picture
Most importantly, all of these actions combined have helped us reduce our overall carbon footprint by 25% compared to 2024. It’s a great result and a clear sign that the changes we’re making are working.
What’s Next?
We know there’s always more to do, but we’re really pleased with the progress we’ve made. We’ll keep building on these successes, listening to new ideas, and looking for practical ways to further reduce our impact in the year ahead.
