The Managementors team volunteers at California Country Park

At Managementors we are passionate about giving back to the community, whilst ensuring that our carbon impact on the environment is as small as possible. In order to actively reduce our carbon footprint, earlier this month the team at Managementors completed a day’s work for the London based charity, Trees for Cities.

Trees for Cities is currently the only UK based charity that is working towards creating greener cities by getting stuck in with local communities to cultivate lasting change in their neighbourhoods. Its work is based around revitalising forgotten spaces, creating healthier environments and getting people excited about growing, foraging and eating healthy food. Through its volunteering programmes its aim is to strengthen communities and inspire children and adults alike to live healthier lifestyles.

On Friday 15th March, the volunteering team at Managementors travelled to California Country Park in Finchampstead. The park covers 40 acres and is set within 100 acres of ancient bogland and lowland heath. Within California Country Park lies the Longmoor Bog, which is a site of Specific Scientific Interest, currently home to a variety of insects, fungi and birds.

Our challenge for the day was to help with the maintenance of the Longmoor Bog by clearing overgrown vegetation and pruning overhanging trees, in order to improve the scenery for local walkers and wildlife watchers. Managementors enthusiastically got stuck in to the work by trimming all the saplings, trees and hedging that were affecting sight lines. Throughout the day we saw the bog transform from an overgrown marsh to a much healthier green space, all whilst bonding as a team.

We thoroughly enjoyed our day working for Trees for Cities and are proud to say that we have successfully helped with the conservation of California Country Park. This is just the first of many activities that we have planned in order to give back to our surrounding community, which we have no doubt will also be as rewarding as this one!
